It looks like the Department of Public Works and Highways DPWH) have a very special gift for motorists this Christmas. Recently, the DPWH turned over 100% of the right-of-way (ROW) between Karuhatan, Valenzuela City to C3 Road, Caloocan City. With it, the government agency is getting close to completing the vital NLEX Harbor Link Segment 10.

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar made the announcement while inspecting the newly-constructed portion of the road project at MacArthur Highway in Karuhatan, Valenzuela City.

Joining Villar during the inspection of the project were Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Benjamin Diokno, DPWH Director Melvin Navarro, Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) and NLEX president Rodrigo Franco, NLEX senior vice president for Tollway Development and Engineering Raul Ignacio, and NLEX senior vice president for Communication and Stakeholder Management Romulo Quimbo Jr.

DPWH: NLEX Harbor Link Segment 10 may be open by Christmas

“We are happy that our team was able to deliver 100 percent right-of-way for the NLEX Harbor Link Segment 10. We hope we can finish this just in time for the Christmas rush to help ease the public’s traffic woes,” said Villar.

In review, the NLEX Harbor Link 10 consists of a 5.65-km elevated expressway that traverses NLEX from MacArthur Highway in Valenzuela City. It then passes through Malabon City and C3 Road, Caloocan City; and R10 in Navotas City. The first section of the expressway is already 83% complete while the second portion stands at 5%.

When fully completed, cargo trucks and other vehicles will have direct access from the Port of Manila to the northern provinces of Luzon and vice versa by way of NLEX. The DPWH expects that the Harbor Link Segment 10 will cut travel time between NLEX and Port of Manila by roughly 10 minutes. Besides reducing travel time, the DPWH also expects that the NLEX Harbor Link Segment 10 will also boost transport and logistic solutions, as well as spur investments.
