Heading to Baguio City from La Union or vice versa over the coming holidays? We have some good news for you as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently opened a new bridge that connects the two provincial areas.
Now open to motorists is the 360-lineal meter Anduyan Bridge located along the Anduyan-Rizal-San Pascual-Nangalesan-Asin Road in Tubao, La Union. The road link was built with the intention of cutting travel time between Tubao and Baguio City from 2 hours and 25 minute, to just one hour.
Present during the inaguration of the Anduyan Bridge were DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel M. Tan, Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 1 Director Martin Valera, La Union Provincial Engineer Elizabeth Sias, Governor Francis Emmanuel 'Pacoy' Ortega III, Tubao Mayor Dante Garcia, and other local government representatives
The new two-lane bridge features 12 spans that consists of 30-meter pre-stressed concrete girders. Anduyan Bridge also features warning and regulatory signages, reflective pavement markings, solar-powered street lights, stone masonry slope protection, reinforced concrete railings, and sidewalks for pedestrians.
According to Villar, Anduyan Bridge will help decongest traffic along Marcos Highway since Kennon Road is still closed to motorists. The new bridge will also help in alleviating traffic along the Bauang-Baguio Road.
Complementing Anduyan Bridge is the 14.24-kilometer construction and improvement of the Aringay-Tubao Alternate Road. This alternate route connects Tubao, La Union to the famous Asin Hot Springs in Tuba, Benguet. With it, the DPWH claimed that the new bridge allowed them to cut travel time between the two locations from 2 hours to just 35 minutes. The cost of the Aringay-Tubao Alternate Road improvement, and the construction of Anduyan Bridge totaled to Php 493.9 million.
With the holidays just around the corner, the new bridge will prove vital in the coming weeks as both locals and tourists alike take the long journey to their respective destinations.
