7.2-km segment of CALAX connecting Tagaytay-Sta. Rosa Road to Silang Exit near Aguinaldo Highway to open very soon
Several weeks ago, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced that the Silang section of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) will be opened in Q3 of this year. This was confirmed by none other than DPWH Secretary Mark Villar who inspected the ongoing project personally.
Originally, the DPWH estimated that CALAX's Subsection 5 (aka Silang section) could open anytime between July and September 2021. However, it seems work on the Silang section was completed ahead of schedule. That's because Mark Villar recently said that the new 7.2-kilometer segment will open very soon.
How soon? Well, according to a Facebook post by Mark Villar, the Silang Section will be opening this month.
But can the Silang section be actually opened this month? Bobby Bontia, president and general manager of Metro Pacific Tollways South (MPTS) said that work on CALAX's Subsection 5 is already 94% complete as of May 14, 2021. He also mentioned that construction workers are busy finishing the drainage systems, installing road safety features, and making the final touches on the toll structures of the Silang Interchange toll plaza.
As we are now in the month of June, the remaining works on the Silang segment might have already been finished ahead of schedule. This means the DPWH could partially open the 7.2-kilometer segment this month in order to provide an alternate route for motorists traveling between Binan, Laguna, and Silang, Cavite.
The DPWH has yet to reveal an exact date of its opening. Hopefully, it will be opened to the public this week or the next.
