Let's face it, people carriers are not exactly the snazziest of vehicles on the road. Built to ferry loads of people in one go, almost all have a utilitarian and simple design. The Nissan NV350 Caravan (also called the NV350 Urvan locally) is no exception, particularly with its cab-over design.
But that doesn't mean Nissan cannot try in changing up its looks. Say hello to the 2020 NV350 Urban Chrome, a classier and more stylish version of Nissan's people carrier. Based off the top-of-the-line Premium GX in Japan, the NV350 features several exterior updates that make it stand out more.
But what changes did Nissan apply to the people carrier?
For starters, splashes of dark chrome are present throughout the van's exterior. From the V-Motion front grill, side mirror caps, and tailgate door trim, all come with the distinct chrome finish. Meanwhile, sportier-looking front and rear bumpers, as well as new side skirts, give the NV350 Urban Chrome additional pizzazz. Finally, the special edition NV350 also comes with LED headlights, exclusive 15-inch alloy wheels, and front and rear underbody protection.
Inside, the cabin of the NV350 relatively remains the same. However, the Japan-spec people carrier gets some noticeable differences when compared to the local units we have. It has an automatic climate control system, a touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, as well as a different multi-info display, and a new set of gauges.
Nissan has also added the Intelligent Around View Monitor (AVM) with moving object detection function for safety and convenience.
Powering the NV350 Urban Chrome are a choice of either a 2.0-liter inline-four gasoline, and a 2.5-liter turbo-diesel inline-four. The former produces 130 PS along with 178 Nm of torque while the latter puts out 129 PS and 356 Nm of torque. Both are connected to a five-speed automatic transmission, with the turbo-diesel version available with part-time 4WD.
Will Nissan offer the Urban Chrome package outside of Japan? Fingers crossed Nissan actually decides to bring the special edition trim to other markets like the Philippines. And, hopefully it only comes in black as it gives the NV350 a stylish and stately look.
