With the debut of the Audi A5 coupe back in June, it was only a matter time before the automaker would reveal the Sportback. Audi has now released details on their latest four door coupe ahead of ots world premiere in the upcoming 2016 Paris Motor Show.
The all-new Audi A5 Sportback is bigger than the current model in terms of length, width and height. Its wheelbase has also been extended for more room inside the cabin. Up front, the three-dimensionally modeled Singleframe grille is significantly flatter and wider than on the previous model. In addition, it features a wraparound front lid with power dome which, Audi says, emphasize the dynamism of the five-door coupe.
On to its side, the A5 Sportback has what Audi calls the wave-pattern shoulder line which gives emphasis to the wheel arches. The rear meanwhile gets elements from its two door sibling with an integrated trunk spoiler and trapezoidal tail lights.
Inside, the A5 Sportback shares its dashboard with the coupe model. The center console is tilted towards the driver for easier reach. Available in the A5 Sportback is the Audi Virtual Cockpit. The Virtual Cockpit features a large, high-resolution TFT monitor measuring at 12.3 inches. This option replaces the analogue dials and displays relevant driver information such as speed, fuel level, as well as navigation. The optional head-up display other information onto the windshield with symbols and digits.
In addition to Virtual Cockpit, the A5 Sportback can be optioned with MMI navigation plus with MMI touch with10 GB of flash storage, a DVD drive, navigation and concierge services. MMI navigation plus also supports iOS and Android smartphones and the system serves as onboard antenna for better signal reception. With this specification, the car also comes with a tablet serves as a flexible Rear Seat Entertainment device, both inside and outside the car.
Under the hood of the A5 Sportback is a range of 2.0 liter and 3.0 liter turbocharged gas (TFSI) and turbodiesel (TDI) engines. With the 2.0 TFSI engine, power output ranges from 190 PS and 320Nm of torque, to 252 PS and 370 Nm of torque. The 2.0 TDI puts out 190 PS and 400 Nm of torque. For six-cylinder power, the 3.0 TDI produces 218 PS and 400 Nm of torque, to 286 PS and 630 Nm of torque.
The top-spec S5 Sportback meanwhile punches out 354 PS and 500 Nm from its 3.0 liter turbocharged V6 engine. There are three transmission options available as well, namely a six-speed manual, eight-speed tiptronic automatic and a seven-speed S-tronic dual clutch transmission.
