Do you feel like your driving time on EDSA has sped up in the last few weeks?
If you lack calibrated devices to precisely compute for your time on EDSA from one point to the other, a simulation was recently conducted by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), which indicated faster vehicular traffic flow on EDSA.
Highway Patrol Group (HPG) chief Col. Antonio Gardiola has announced a seven-minute reduction in travel time along the 23.8-kilometer stretch of EDSA from from Monumento, Caloocan City to the Mall of Asia (MOA) in Pasay City.
Based on the MMDA’s simulation conducted last July 2016, this increase in speed is not affected by what time of the day you travel.
As per the instruction of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade, the HPG has been working closely with the Land Transportation Office (LTO), the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), various traffic units of the cities that EDSA occupies and MMDA, even using the Metrobase facilities and equipment to better monitor traffic, to make better day-to-day implementations and adjustments to speed up traffic.
“This is due to closer coordination among traffic units of the national government and the local government units (LGUs),” said Gadiola.
Gadiola did underscore that the public may not yet feel the full effect of this improvement until all the programs for traffic management take effect.
