We have some good news for motorists frequently traveling along EDSA Balintawak and North Avenue. The Quezon City Government and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) have just reopened the U-turn slots near Quezon City Academy and Dario Bridge. Unfortunately, there is a catch with its re-opening.
Not all types of vehicles will be allowed to take the U-turn slots. According to the LGU, only light vehicles will be allowed to make a U-turn near Quezon City Academy. Meanwhile, emergency and marked government vehicles are the only ones permitted to make a U-turn near Dario Bridge.
In order to ensure that traffic will move smoothly in the area, Quezon City's Task Force on Traffic Management together with Task Force Disiplina, will enforce a stop-and-go traffic scheme. That way, buses traveling on the EDSA Carousel can be stopped to let private vehicles make a U-turn and vice versa.
The decision to reopen the said U-turn slots came just a few days after the MMDA announced they plan to reopen them to private motorists. They were originally set to be reopened to the public at the latest this Saturday. But both the MMDA and Quezon City Government were able to reopen it today after coming up with the stop-and-go traffic scheme.
With the U-turn slots reopened, the Quezon City Gov't, and the MMDA are optimistic this will help alleviate traffic congestion during peak hours.
