The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) can rest easy for now and continue with its current plans and programs with the announcement that former MMDA Chairman Atty. Emerson Carlos will continue to serve the agency as its Office-in-Charge (OIC).

Carlos stepped down from his post at the end of June to give way to the new chairman that will be appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte.

But in a letter sent by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, Carlos was asked to continue performing his duties as the MMDA OIC in the interim.

”In the exigency of service, please be informed that you are hereby designated as Officer-In-Charge, Metro Manila Development Auhtority. You are hereby ordered to continue to perform the functions of the office and ensure the continuous delivery of public services, until a Chairman is appointed,” Medialdea said in his letter.

This will allow the MMDA to continue its work under the guidelines and direction set by its former chairman.

”At least meron kaming head may direction, hindi ko naman sinasbi walang direction nung wala siya, pero kasi mahirap ang walang head. At least ngayon, meron na kaming head, mas clear yung direction nung opisina. Meron talagang person in command to guide samin kung ano talaga yung dapat gawin. Si Chairman Carlos ay person who wants to talk tsaka inspirational leader siya. Mapapansin niyo yung mga tao dito, hindi siya sinusunod dahil sa natatakot sa kanya, sumusunod sila kasi inspired sa trabaho,” said Goddes Hope O. Libiran, acting Chief of Public Information Office of MMDA.

[At least we now have direction and somebody that heads us. That’s not to say that we didn’t have any direction but it is hard to not have a chairman.

Now we have a leader and the direction of the office is now much clearer. We have a person in command to guide us on what to do exactly.

Chairman Carlos is someone who wants to talk and he’s an inspirational leader. You’ll notice that people here follow him not because they’re afraid, but because there are inspired to work.]
