Following last week's photo leak, an independent source from Thailand has told AutoIndustriya.com that the global debut date of the all new 2016 Toyota Hilux pick-up will take place in a few weeks.
Our source has indicated that the new generation pick-up from Toyota will make its world premiere on May 21 at the BITEC Exhibition Center in Bangkok, Thailand, followed by local launches within ASEAN soon after; the Philippine launch of the new Hilux could take place sometime in August.
In a separate leak, an image of a supposed internal presentation of the 2016 Toyota Hilux have revealed details regarding the powertrain and gearbox, all of which is seemingly new.
The first engine will be the 2GD-FTV, a new 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine while the other one will be a 1GD-FTV, a range-topping 2.8-liter turbodiesel. Transmission choices include 5-speed manuals, 6-speed manuals and 6-speed automatics whereas the current generation was only offered with a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic.
Models equipped with the 2GD mated with a 5-speed manual will get 167 PS and 343 Nm of torque while the 2GD with a 6-speed automatics get 161 PS and 400 Nm. The top spec 1GD gets 177 PS with 6 speed manual models getting 420 Nm of torque and 6 speed automatic models get 450 Nm of torque. It is also worthy of note that the 6-speed manual gearbox in the 1GD is called an iMT (iintelligent Manual Transmission) which has 2 drive modes: PWR (Power) and Eco.
There is no information yet whether or not there were changes to the chassis and suspension.
