We posted about the launch of the 2014 Toyota Corolla for the US market just before the weekend. It was part one of what was supposed to be a two-part reveal for the world’s best-selling car. As with the Toyota Camry, which also had a US reveal as well as a European reveal; the Japanese automaker has done the same with the Corolla once again. Toyota chose to release the European-spec Camry for the ASEAN market and we are almost 100% sure that they will do the same for the Corolla as well.
The European reveal features much sharper yet more elegant details for both the front and rear of the car, bearing a strong similarity to the Yundong Shuangqing II concept we speculated as the final Corolla concept. It is the very same car in the spyshots leaked in February this year.
While the US-market version was announced to be equipped with a 1.8-liter gas engine, with 132hp standard and 140hp valvematic version; the European version will choices of either a 1.3-liter gas, 1.6-liter gas, or 1.4-liter diesel engine. For the Philippines, Toyota might go with a 1.6-liter and the 1.8-liter valvematic.
Some new details revealed are better fuel consumption figures thanks to a 30-kilogram diet, the rear seating area has also been redone to resemble that of the Camry and rear legroom has been increased by as much as 92mm.
The interior is essentially similar, there are minor details that differ between the two, the European version receives a more premium treatment compared to the sportier US version. Most noticeable would be a different instrument cluster which features a multi-information meter, and dual-zone climate control (top-spec variant).
Toyota will be building the European version of the 2014 Corolla in Turkey and is expected to go on sale end of July 2013. Although no official announcement has been made on the Philippine release, reliable sources tell us that it might make its debut for the market at the end of 2013.
