When Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) launched the 2021 Vios, they gave the sedan a Corolla Altis-like face. With its sleeker headlights, sportier front bumper, and more dashing front grille, the B-segment sedan looked better than its predecessor. But with the four-door now rocking a fresh new look, its five-door counterpart is also set to get a styling update.
It didn't exactly take long as Toyota recently launched the 2021 Yaris in The Land of Smiles. Just like the Vios, it adopts a new face that gives it a sharper and more mature look. High-grade models come with LED headlights as standard, LED daytime running lights, a bolder front grille, and optional two-tone paint finish, new alloy wheels, and an updated range of colors.
All well and good, but what really surprised us on the 2021 Yaris is that it now has Toyota Safety Sense available. That's right, Toyota's suite of intelligent safety features has officially made its way on the B-segment hatchback. With it, the Yaris gains a pre-collision warning system and lane departure alert. Sadly, it doesn't get the other extras like an automatic high beam, lane tracing alert, and adaptive cruise control.
What other updates did Toyota make on the Yaris? Well, they did install a fancier-looking gauge cluster, updated infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, leather seats, automatic headlights, 2 USB charging ports for the rear passengers, and an automatic dimming rearview mirror. Clearly, Toyota was busy making the 2021 Yaris better than its predecessor through more features.
Unlike the PH-spec Yaris which gets either a 1.3 or 1.5-liter Dual VVT-i engines, the Thai-spec hatch is powered by a smaller 1.2-liter 3NR-FE four-cylinder engine in order to meet the country's Eco Car Program. It musters 92 PS along with 109 Nm of torque. Power is then sent to a CVT. To help it be more fuel-efficient, the 2021 Yaris benefits from an idle stop/start system.
With Thailand just receiving the 2021 Yaris, it's likely that the Philippines will be the next country to have it. But will we get the nifty features like Toyota Safety Sense, rain-sensing wipers, or even the two extra USB chargers at the back?
