Traveling from Tarlac all the way to Nueva Ecija will soon be faster and easier.

After holding the groundbreaking ceremony of the Rio Chico Bridge section last September 2017, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently announced that Package 1 of Contract Phase 1 of the Central Luzon Link Expressway (CLLEX) is nearing completion.

Package 1 will start out at the connection of Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) and Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) in Balincanway, Tarlac. The project was built with a budget of Php 1.063 billion and is now 97% complete. The first package of the four-lane expressway comes with an underpass bridge and two farm passages.

For DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, CLLEX will greatly reduce traffic along Daang Maharlika, and will help promote more livelihood opportunities in Region 3.

“This project will decongest Daang Maharlika by 48% by serving as an alternate route to and from the two cities. Aside from that, we expect the project to promote more livelihood opportunities in Region 3 that will further contribute in reducing traffic in Metro Manila,” said Villar.

In review, CLLEX Phase 1 will be split into four packages and will cover the construction of a 30 km expressway that will connect the cities of Tarlac and Cabanatuan. It will be built with a budget of Php 14.93 billion, and will traverse the following municipalities: La Paz, Tarlac; and Zaragoza and Aliaga in Nueva Ecija.

When it's finished, travel time between Tarlac City and Cabanatuan City is expected to be reduced from 70 minutes to just 20 minutes via CLLEX.
