Ford unleashes new supercharger kit for V8 Mustang, F-150
Thinking of adding more horses under the hood of the 2018 Mustang GT without breaking the warranty? Well, now you can after Ford Performance released a new supercharger kit for the 5.0-liter Coyote V8.
Co-developed with Roush, the new supercharger was specially-designed for the updated V8's new port and direct-injection system. In stock form, the V8 already produces an impressive 460 PS and 569 Nm of torque. When equipped with the new supercharger, the Coyote V8 belts out a hefty 710 PS and 827 Nm of pulling power (with 93 octane gasoline at 0.8 bar).
With this kind of power, the Mustang GT is right up Dodge's Hellcat output figures which is at 717 PS and 880 Nm of torque.
Aside from the Mustang GT, the supercharger kit can also be installed on the V8 model of the 2018 F-150. From the factory, it pushes out 395 PS and 540 Nm of torque. But with the supercharger kit, the engine can now pull 640 PS and 814 Nm of torque.
As mentioned earlier, the supercharger kit will not void the car's warranty. Meanwhile, the supercharger itself will have a limited warranty that is supported by both Ford Performance and Roush.
“Ford and Roush have teamed up on performance for years on and off the track. This new supercharger is another great example of our innovation in performance, greatly improving horsepower and torque so people can enjoy two of our most iconic vehicles even more,” said Doug White, Global Ford Performance Parts Manager.
On the other hand, Jack Roush, chairman of the Board of Directors at Roush Performance, said that this is one of their most powerful superchargers to date.
“Our teams collaborated to create the most highly engineered, tested and performing supercharger kit on the market. The combination of the 2018 5.0-liter engine and our all-new, fully integrated 2650 supercharger system yields simply incredible, no-compromise performance,” stated Roush.
The kit will come with a hardware installation and a unique performance calibration.
