Ford Philippines representatives set-up a Fiesta fuel efficiency challenge to travel more than 700 kilometres on a single tank of gas, with the Department of Energy (DOE) witnessing the process and results, including refuelling of the vehicles at its conclusion to verify results.
Four new Ford Fiestas vehicles kicked-off from Balintawak, making their way to the northern part of Luzon (Vigan) and back, all vying for the most fuel efficient drive. All four test vehicles were subjected to DOE examination prior to the run, with the Fiesta's hoods, lift gates and fuel lids being checked and officially sealed.
Each vehicle had two participants, including a driver and navigator. All four vehicles were set to normal driving conditions, windows were closed at all times and the air-conditioner was set and secured at speed "1" for the entire duration of the drive. The run was performed at average speeds between 40-80kph depending on traffic conditions.
The Ford Fiesta 1.6L Powershift Trend Sedan set the highest economy numbers by yielding 19 kilometers per liter (km/l) and achieving a range of 747 km. A pair of Ford Fiesta 1.6L Powershift Hatchbacks achieved more than 730 km and a fuel consumption of 18.84 and 18.73 km/l. The 1.4L Manual Fiesta sedan also reached 705 kilometers and a consumption average of 17.03 km/l.
"The All-New Ford Fiesta proved that it is indeed a class-leader for fuel efficiency, confirming expectations with some very impressive results," says Dino Obias, AVP for Marketing of Ford Group Philippines.
Next month, Ford will host a second fuel efficiency test with members of the Philippine media corps, and a challenge to all participants to try and beat these already impressive numbers.
