Ford to display four specially customized Focus models at SEMA
The 2017 SEMA Show will see Ford bring in a myriad of heavily customized vehicles, including several Focuses, F-150s and Mustangs. Among the cars that will be on display are four specially-tuned Focus RS and ST models that each have their own unique purpose and build. Blending power and style, Ford claims that these four Focus concepts will highlight the brand's technology and make them stand out from the rest.
First up is the rally-inspired RS Rally Revivial. Built to pay tribute to rally drivers of yesteryear, this specially-tuned Focus gets a a heavily customized exterior, along with a revamped powertrain and suspension system. For starters, Mountune gave the EcoBoost engine a high-flow induction kit and full intercooler upgrade. The exhaust system, on the other hand gets a Borla catted downpipe along with a Ford Performance S-Type cat-back exhaust. Topping it all off is the short-throw shifter for the six-speed manual.
An RS-R coilover suspension improves ride quality and reduces vibrations, while the front and rear sway bars now come from Eibach. Better stopping power is provided by DBA USA and a new camber adjustment kit from Whiteline tweaks the handling. A set of 19-inch OZ Racing Superturismo GT fill up the wheel wells and are wrapped in Nitto NT01 235/35 tires.
Next up is the custom Focus RS made by Universal Technical Institute. Essentially a street performance mod for the hatchback, it gets select performance upgrades under the hood and a unique Pennzoil yellow paintjob from Axalta. It now has a new exhaust and short-throw shifter from Ford Performance and a FullRace intercooler, piping and intake upgrade. Beyond that,BC Racing coilovers give the hatchback better handling while bigger six-piston calipers and rotors from Baer deliver improved stopping power.
For those that want to make a drag car out of the Focus RS, VMP Performance gave the hot hatchback a fast upgrade with the 'TriAthlete' concept. Painted in matte black with red accents, it gets a unique aerokit that is paired up with a highly-modified powertrain that aims to reduce turbo lag while boosting power output.
A cold air intake from COBB Tuning and Levels Performance intercooler give the car additional horses under the hood, along with a Ford Performance cat-back exhaust system. To reduce trubo lag, VMP Performance also installed a Turbosmart internal wastegate actuator and a Kompact dual port blow-off valve. Its chassis also gets a plethora of upgrades that include an air suspension system, DBA USA front and rear slotted disc rotors and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires that measure 265/35/R19.
Last but not the least is Blood Type Racing's custom Focus ST. Described as 'combining lifestyle elements of moving images with motorsports,' the Midnight Purple Focus ST blends stylish looks with functionality. Mounted on the roof is a drone helipad which can take pictures and videos while on the move. B Forged Performance 768SL 19-inch wheels give the car a wide stance while grip is provided by Toyo Tires T1 Sports that measure 245/35.
It's not all about show however as the Focus ST packs some serious power too. Under the hood, the EcoBoost engine has been boosted with a Borg Warner turbo kit that works with a Ford Performance exhaust. A Mishimoto cooling system, on the other hand, keeps the powertrain at optimal temperature. Other upgrades present in the special Focus ST include a Wilwood big brake kit and an Airlift Performance air suspension system.
The 2017 SEMA Show will be open to the public from Oct 31 – Nov 3 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Nevada.
