Ford understands their customers' plight with traffic and their desire for having the best routes all the time as they announced that Waze is now available on SYNC 3. Yes you read that right, Ford has fully integrated Waze onto its infotainment system.
This was made possible thanks to AppLink which will enable users to project real-time traffic and navigation information from SYNC 3's touchscreen display, as well as use voice commands for Waze.
Much like Anrdoid Auto or Apple CarPlay, users would only need to plug in their phones to a USB port to activate Waze on SYNC 3. Users can then access the app's functions via the SYNC 3's display, negating the use of the phone's display while driving.
“Our goal is to bring a human-centered approach to technology in the vehicle, making it as easy as possible for people to integrate the tools that matter most to them. With the flexibility of our SYNC 3 software and AppLink, customers can easily use Waze to get all the traffic and navigation help they need – on a big screen and without having to fiddle around with their phones while driving,” said Don Butler, Executive Director at Ford's Connected Vehicle and Services.
In the future, any 2018 Ford model equipped with SYNC 3 version 3.0 or higher will be able to run Waze on the system directly. Other vehicles with older versions of SYNC 3 can either receive an online update or USB update to enable Waze functionality.
