Ford gives the Escort its first refresh with new tech, updated design

It's not just the all-new Ford Focus that made its world debut in China recently. Also making its public debut is the refreshed Ford Escort which now packs a more elegant exterior. Yes you read that right, the Escort nameplate lives on in China as a B-segment sedan.

First revived in 2014 for the Chinese market, the updated Escort now comes with a fresh face reminescent of the all-new Focus and Fiesta. Its scuplted look paired with sleek lines and curves give the Escort a more upmarket look. The C-shaped LED daytime running lights, along with the reshaped HID headlights and five-slat grill also give the car a more sophisticated appearance.

Pictures of the Escort's rear were not provided although Ford did mention that the LED taillights now extend towards the trunk lid for a better look. Other features behind the Escort include new design elements for the reverse lights and rear foglights. Topping it all off are the multi-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels.

Images of the interior and dashboard were not available at the time of posting. However, Ford did say that the 2018 Escort comes with a two-tone gray and black color scheme which gives the cabin a 'fresh and contemporary feel'. Also making its way inside the Escort is a new instrument cluster, high-gloss trim pieces and satin aluminum accents.

2018 Ford Escort refresh revealed with sleeker design

Available amenities on the 2018 Escort include power seats, power-folding side mirrors, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, reverse camera, automatic headlights, auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing wipers and keyless entry with push-button start.

Two engine choices are available for the 2018 Escort, a 1.0-liter EcoBoost inline-three and a new 1.5-liter Ti-VCT inline-four. No output figures have been released yet though expect the inline-three to produce the same 125 PS from the Fiesta model. Meanwhile, Ford claimed that the 1.5-liter engine is lighter and stronger than the older version and will offer 16-percent better fuel efficiency.

Both the three- and four-cylinder engines can be mated to either a six-speed SelectShift automatic or a newly-developed six-speed manual gearbox.

Standard safety features installed on the 2018 Escort include anti-lock brakes, stability control, curtain six airbags and a tire pressure monitoring system.
