After four years in the Philippine market, Ford's contender in the small crossover has just received a much-needed makeover.

After making its Asia-Pacific debut in China back in April 2017, the refreshed Ford EcoSport has officially landed in the Philippines. Featuring a redesigned front fascia,  as well as a host of new technologies, Ford is looking to maintain their dominance in the segment

As mentioned earlier, the 2018 EcoSport gets a fresh new face. It gets an all-new front grill, along with a bigger set of headlights. New LED daytime running lights, as well as reshaped foglights and front bumper, also make their way into the 2018 EcoSport. Changes at the back are minimal although Ford did install a new spare tire carrier and a reshaped rear bumper. Topping it all off is a new set of alloy wheels.

Size-wise, the updated EcoSport now measures 4325mm long (includes spare tire carrier), 1765mm wide and 1656mm tall. It also has a 2519mm wheelbase, a ground clearance of 209 mm, and a 52-liter fuel tank capacity.

Inside, Ford was busy changing up the cabin of the 2018 EcoSport. It gets a heavily restyled center stack, a new tablet-inspired touchscreen display, newly-designed HVAC controls, and a more ergonomic center console. Other changes introduced on the 2018 EcoSport include a sporty three-spoke steering wheel, more soft-touch materials, new multi-info display, re-positioned USB ports / 12V power socket, and new seats. It also has a total of 25 storage compartments.

Gone is the gen-1 SYNC infotainment system as the 2018 EcoSport now makes use of SYNC 3. With it, the EcoSport now comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, as well as navigation. Other features available in SYNC 3 are AM/FM radio, Aux, Bluetooth and USB. Leather upholstery, automatic climate control, power sunroof, six-speaker sound system, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers and auto-dimming rearview mirror are just some of the available extras on high-grade models of the refreshed EcoSport.

Propelling the 2018 EcoSport is a new 1.5-liter Ti-VCT engine. It produces 123 PS at 6500 rpm along with 150 Nm of torque at 4500 rpm. Gone is the PowerShift dual-clutch as it is now mated to a six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission. A five-speed manual gearbox is also available on the base model of the EcoSport.

But for those that need a bit more oomph from their EcoSport, Ford is also offering the award-winning 1.0-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost on the 2018 model year refresh. Compared to the naturally-aspirated inline-three, the turbocharged engine puts out 125 PS along with 170 Nm of torque. The EcoBoost engine is only available with the six-speed automatic transmission. It's reserved for the top-spec Titanium while the rest of the range sticks with the non-turbo 1.5-liter engine with 123 PS and 150 Nm. 

In terms of safety, the 2018 EcoSport comes with the following: anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) and brake assist (BA), electronic stability control (ESC), traction control system (TCS), reverse camera and a host of airbags.
