Getting ready for 2016, Ford Group Philippines has launched their revamped full-size crossover, the Explorer Sport. The updated Explorer Sport gets updated tech, and a new Ecoboost engine to complement its refreshed exterior.
“The new Explorer Sport continues to lead the way in innovation, power and performance in a smart vehicle that you would want in an SUV.” said Kay Hart, managing director, Ford Philippines.
"We see the Philippines as an SUV and crossover market and the Explorer Sport strengthens Ford's position in the segment. Ford offers the widest variety of SUV's in the market, starting from the Ecosport to the Expedition Platinum. Our lineup of 9 vehicles features three cars, five SUV's and one pickup to suit the demands of Philippine roads." adds Joseph Ayllon, assistant vice president for communications, Ford Philippines
The most obvious change for 2016 is a new front fascia. The swept back headlights of the 2011 to 2015 model make way for more 'robust' units that are available with LED signature lighting, while standard for 2016 are a set of LED low-beams. Finished in high gloss black, the grill has been set higher compared to the current model and features an all-new design. The front bumpers have also been reshaped, gaining an extra vent just below the grill while the foglights ditch the circular design for a larger “C” shaped pair. Other changes made for the 2016 Explorer Sport are new wheel designs, rear tail lights and rear spoiler. Being the Sport model, the full size crossover features gloss black trim, machine finished 20 inch wheels.
The redesign of the Explorer also brings in new technologies for the full-size crossover. It features a segment-first Front 180 Degree Camera with Washer. The wide angle lens allows the driver to have a better view when parking in tight spaces while the washer eliminates the hassles of a blurry display. First seen in the redesigned Focus, the 2016 Explorer Sport features Front Park Assist. The system acts as an aid to the front camera and is equipped with sensors to warn the driver of oncoming vehicles.
In addition to the new safety technologies, the 2016 Explorer Sport features new convenience features. It is now equipped with two Smart-Charging USB ports, located at the front and rear sides of the interior. For ease in lifting the tailgate, the Explorer Sport also comes with a Hands-Free Liftgate. The tailgate opens with a kicking or swinging motion just below the center of the car's rear bumper.
Under the hood of the Explorer Sport is a 3.5 liter, twin-turbocharged Ecoboost V6 engine. Living up to its Sport moniker, it produces 370 PS and 475 Nm of torque. Mated to a 6-Speed SelectShift automatic, the Explorer Sport transfers its power to all four wheels.
Color choices for the 2016 Explorer Sport are Tuxedo Black, White Platinum and Magnetic Metallic. The revamped full-size crossover will be available in all Ford dealerships nationwide starting this month.
