After leading Ford Philippines as the company’s Managing Director for nearly two years, PK ‘Uma’ Umashankar will soon be leaving his role for a new position. Ford Motor Company announced that Uma has been appointed as the new director of Ford Customer Service Division, International Markets Group (IMG). He will take on the role starting April 1.
In his new regional role, Umashankar will have overall responsibility for Ford’s customer service and after-sales initiatives across the diverse and geographically widespread markets that comprise the company’s IMG region. As the new director, he will be relocating to Bangkok, Thailand, and will report directly to Dianne Craig, president, International Markets Group.
Under Umashankar’s leadership, Ford Philippines experienced a boost in sales brought by the launches of several new, key models. Some of these included the Everest Sport, F-150, and the new Territory, launched in 2020. He also made the Ranger one of the best-selling pick-up trucks in 2020, despite the challenging economic situation. More recently, he introduced the newly updated lineup of Ranger trucks, including the newest variant – the 2021 Ranger FX4 Max.
“Uma has been instrumental in leading our business in the Philippines amid a very challenging time. Under his leadership, customers’ choices in the Ford showroom expanded with the successful launches of the Everest Sport, F-150, and all-new Ford Territory in 2020. His hands-on approach also allowed customers to enjoy improved parts availability and enhanced ownership experience supported by our dealer partners,” said Yukontorn ‘Vickie’ Wisadkosin, president, Ford ASEAN.
At the moment, there is no word on who will be replacing Umashankar as the new Managing Director of Ford Philippines. The company says an announcement will be made at a later date.
