Ford has just announced their plan to auction off the last of the limited-run, 50 year edition of the Mustang for the “Get Your Heart Racing” fundraising event for the benefit of Edith and Benson Ford Vascular Institute.
The said Ford Mustang 50-year Limited Edition is No. 1,964 of 1,964 will go under the gavel in Las Vegas in September. Each car prior to No. 1,964 featured a plaque on the instrument panel embossed with the signature of Ford’s CEO Bill Ford, but this last commemorative example will receive additional signatures from other Ford executives as well as a pace car kit.
“We wanted to provide our most dedicated fans with the emotion of the original Mustang in a 21st century car. With this 50 Year Limited Edition, I believe we have accomplished our goal”, said Bill Ford, CEO of Ford.
The car itself is based off the GT variant with the Performance Package as standard. The exterior is adorned with a front splitter and wider 19-inch alloy wheels while mechanical upgrades include a Torsen LSD (limited slip differential) and Brembo brake calipers attached to 380mm front discs and 330mm rear discs. Upgrades to the handling and safety were also added that include improved springs, bushings and monotube rear dampers, stiffer sway bars, ESC, anti-lock brakes, electronic power-assisted steering and an improved cooling system for “track day” use. It has a maximum output of 440 PS with 541 Nm of torque.
The car will debut on September 12, 2014 at the Get Your Heart Racing party in Detroit prior to it being sent to Las Vegas for the Barrett-Jackson auction from September 25-27, 2014. The winning bidder will not only receive the special Mustang, but will also get a VIP package to the Ford EcoBoost 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup at the Homestead-Miami Speedway on November 16, 2014 where the car will also be the official pace car.
