The Ford Motor Company is about to reveal something big at the start of the new decade. Come 2020, the Blue Oval brand will be debuting not just the all-new F-150, but also the all-electric and hybrid versions of the pick-up truck.
That's correct, Ford will be unleashing the next-generation F-150, the F-150 Hybrid, and the fully-electric F-150 next year. All of these will be made possible after Ford recently invested more than $1.45 billion (about Php 73.41 billion) at two of its Michigan factories. Moreover, the company is looking to add 3,000 jobs in order to boost production in trucks and SUVs.
Ford is investing approximately $700 million at its manufacturing facility in Dearborn, Michigan in order to produce the electrified versions of the F-150. In addition, the company is also looking to add 300 jobs in order to support the manufacturing of the upcoming pick-up trucks. Apart from building the new F-150s, the Dearborn site will also be assembling the battery cells needed for the hybrid and electric F-150 trucks.
Aside from the new F-150, Ford will also be releasing the much-awaited Bronco. The remaining $750 million investment will be used to upgrade Ford's Wayne, Michigan factory during the next three years. With it, the factory will be able to build the all-new Bronco, as well as support production of the US-spec Ranger. In addition, the Wayne facility will be where Ford's first autonomous vehicles will be produced starting in 2021. Approximately 2,700 jobs will be added in order for the facility to build the Bronco and other future Ford vehicles.
“At Ford, we are investing aggressively in building on our strengths today – including trucks and SUVs – while at the same time expanding our leadership into electric and autonomous vehicles. As America’s No. 1 producer of automobiles, we are proud of our commitment to invest in manufacturing here in Michigan,” said Joe Hinrichs, Ford president in Automotive.
With Ford set to reveal the next-generation F-150, its electrified versions, along with the all-new Bronco, the Blue Oval brand wants to kick off the new decade with a bang. Here's to hoping we don't have to wait for long for the reveal of any of the new vehicles Ford will debut soon.
