Ford kits out the 2018 Mustang GT with new handling, aerodynamics package
Ford's refreshed pony car has just received a plethora of upgrades that aim to improve its stopping power, aerodynamics and handling. Called the Performance Pack Level 2, it has all of the added benefits of Performance Pack Level 1 but has some unique extras to boot.
For starters, it gets a lower, more aggressive stance along with a high-performance front splitter and rear spoiler. According to the engineers, the splitter is capable of generating 10 kg of downforce at 128 km/h.
Also present are specially-designed 19-inch custom wheels that Ford claim will deliver better handling and steering response. Wrapped around those aluminum wheels are grippy Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires that measure 305/30/R19.
In addition, custom tuned MagneRide dampers will give the Mustang sharper and a more precise handling. This was made possible by making the rear and front stabilier bars 67- and 12-percent stiffer accordingly, and making the front and rear springs more rigid by 20- and 13-percent compared to Level 1 tuning.
As mentioned earlier, Performance Pack Level 2 still gets the myriad of upgrades found in Level 1. These include: unique stability and electronic power-assisted steering, six-piston Brembo front brake calipers with large diameter rotors, bigger radiator, silver-painted strut tower brace and a Torsen rear differerntial with 3.73 axle ratio.
"It will just beg you to go faster. The car has lightning-quick response and never gives up grip,” said Jaime Cullen, Ford supervisor for vehicle dynamics development.
The all-new Performance Pack Level 2 for the 2018 Ford Mustang GT will only be available with a manual transmission.
