Looking to get a small Mercedes-Benz but not a fan of the all-new CLA or the A-Class Hatchback? We have some good news for you as Auto Nation Group, the official distributor of Mercedes-Benz in the country, is now offering the A-Class Sedan.
Longer and a bit more spacious than the hatchback version, the A-Class Sedan offers the compact-like dimensions of the five-door, while offering a bit more cabin and luggage space in a small package.
Measuring 4549mm long, the sedan variant is longer by 130mm to accommodate the trunk at the back. Width, height and wheelbase however, remain the same at 1796mm, 1440mm, and 2729mm respectively. And should drivers need to have more space, the rear seat backrests can be folded down on the A-Class Sedan.
Styling-wise, the A-Class Sedan looks the same as its hatchback brethren. The only clear difference the sedan has (apart from having one less door) is its altered rear. It gets a pair of wide taillights, a duckbill-style trunklid, as well as a cleaner-looking rear bumper. Everything else, including the tapered headlights, signature front grill, as well as the 17-inch ten-spoke alloy wheels, are carried over to the sedan.
Inside, it's the same story as with the hatchback variant. That means it gets the high-tech MBUX infotainment system, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather-wrapped seats and steering wheel, memory seat function for the driver's seat, aircraft-inspired aircon vents, as well as the unique touchpad on the center console for controlling the infotainment system.
It also comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and intelligent voice control that can be activated by saying 'Hey Mercedes'. This can then help the driver automatically adjust the car's settings, plan a designated route on the sat nav, or even check the local news or weather online.
Under the hood is a 1.5-liter, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, instead of the turbocharged gasoline engine. It outputs 116 PS at 4000 rpm along with a hefty 260 Nm of torque at 1750 – 2750 rpm. Power is then sent to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission driving the front wheels.
A wide array of safety features and driver aids are available on the A-Class Sedan.
It comes with a host of airbags (including for the driver's knee), anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist, stability control, anti-skid control, hill-start assit, reversing camera, as well as adaptive cruise control. It even has driver attention assist which constantly monitors a driver's status, especially when they're feeling sleepy / drowsy.
The A-Class Sedan is only available in 180 d trim and has a sticker price of Php 2,790,000. This makes the four-door Php 100,000 more expensive than the standard five-door hatchback offering.
