Frankfurt 2013 Preview: The Audi Sport Quattro Concept

The concept succeeds the Sport Quattro of the 1980s

Following the release of sketches of the Audi Sport Quattro Concept, the details from Audi itself confirms the information we acquired last month.

The Audi Sport Quattro deviates from its former rally car purpose while maintaining the boxy, short-wheelbase coupe body it was known for. Despite changes in appearance and specifications, the car remains concept specifically designed for motorsport.

Its rectangular double headlights feature the Audi Matrix LED technology, which will be available in the new generation Audi A8 by the end of this year. While the Matrix LED creates a sporty look, it also provides excellent illumination  that can be adjusted according to the situation.

The CFRP and aluminum structure elements used in the car lead to its lightweight dynamic performance. Including the battery pack, the concept’s curb weight is 1,850 kg. To supplement the lightweight body is the handling capabilities of the suspension and brake systems.

The Sport Quattro Concept is equipped with the plug-in hybrid drive that provides a system output of 700 PS and system torque of 800 Nm, and can reach 48 km/l. Without the hybrid system, the 4.0 liter twin turbo V8 produces 560 PS and 700 Nm. Efficiency is further improved with the cylinder on demand system that deactivates four cylinders under part load, and the start-stop system. in the pure electric mode, the motor has a peak output of 150 PS and 400 Nm of torque.

The debut of this concept car is due on September 12, 2013. Will the rebirth of the Audi Spot Quattro live up or exceed its former reputation?
