The BMW X5 is the second BMW plug-in hybrid vehicle with eDrive
The new BMW X5 will flaunt its newest features at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show this September. Dubbed the BMW Concept X5 eDrive, the crossover SUV will be BMW’s second plug-in hybrid vehicle sporting the eDrive technology. This allows the X5 to run 120 km/h tops with a maximum range of 30 km while running on electric power alone using the 70 kW engine capable of 96 PS. The combined operation of the four-cylinder combustion engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and the electric motor has an average fuel consumption of 26 km/L and under 90 g/km of CO2 emissions.
The new concept marks the first time the eDrive and xDrive will be used in the same vehicle. This gives the X5 eDrive superior driving characteristics: assured traction and optimized stability in all weather and road conditions, and increased agility through dynamically taken corners.
Its hybrid plug-in charging system allows the owner to charge the high-voltage battery from any domestic power socket, a Wallbox designed for stronger currents, or a public charging station. This flexibility is further enhanced with a stored charging cable.
Furthermore, the X5 eDrive uses the BMW ConnectedDrive to help drivers monitor their trips completed on electric power alone. The application also displays all information concerning battery charge and electric range through the driver’s Smartphone. Likewise, owners can initiate the charging through their device.
