Following the debut of Audi’s first-ever rear-wheel drive R8, Audi now unveils a more practical performance offering in the form of the new RS4 Avant. Distinguished by bigger air vents, oval exhaust tips, and a roof-mounted spoiler, the RS4 Avant makes for the most aggressive iteration of Audi’s standard A4 wagon models.
Audi claims the styling cues of the new RS4 Avant harks back to that of the legendary 90 Quattro IMSA GTO race car while at the same time giving a nod to the first generation RS4 by way of its Nogaro Blue paintjob. The latter will be available as an Audi Exclusive option – meaning it will cost you extra.
The interior is pretty much similar to the RS5, with RS-Specific trim, trinkets, a heads up display, and Audi’s new virtual cockpit.
The Audi RS4 Avant is fitted with the same 2.9L V6 Bi-turbo mill found in the RS5. That means the RS4 Avant pushes 450PS to all four wheels via Audi’s signature Quattro powertrain. Torque figures have increased to 600Nm for this generation of RS models thanks to turbocharging. The RS4 Avant will exclusively come with an 8-Speed tiptronic transmission.
Zero to 100km/h is covered in 4.1 seconds, with top speed being limited to 250km/h. An optional RS Dynamic Package will bump that limit up to 280km/h.
Audi will open orders for the RS4 Avant by fall and will have them ready at dealership floors by early 2018.
