With a range of crossovers and MPVs in the market, GAC is turning their attention to their sedans for the new decade. At the moment, there's the (not so) compact GA4, the mid-size GA6, and the full-size GA8 luxury sedan.
Their upcoming model is a possible successor for the GA4, and it looks promising. It's called the EMPOW55, and it's the first model from the Chinese automaker to use the modular GPMA platform. The all-new sedan is a concept for now, but GAC says it's set for production and coming soon. If it won't replace the GA4, it could slot in between that model and the larger GA6.
The design looks nothing like the current offerings from GAC. As far as its design, they are gunning for a sportier look. The slim, upswept headlights give the car a hint of aggression, while the prominent grille adds presence.
Like most new sedans these days, the side profile is coupe-like with its sloping rear windshield. As for the rear, it gets slim taillights with LED illumination, and the license plate holder is mounted on the trunk instead of the rear bumper. Of course, we're not expecting the production model to look exactly like the concept. Nonetheless, GAC signed off the new look for their next-generation compact sedan.
There are no photos of the interior for now. That said, we're expecting a new design language that will set the tone for future GAC models, as well as more tech. Engine specifications are not out yet, either. However, it likely takes the downsized turbo route, just like most of GAC's current offerings.
The EMPOW55 represents the future of GAC. That means there's a lot to expect from them this decade. We might even see some design elements of this sedan on other future models. If that's the case, their designs will certainly level up in the 2020s.
