Geely may be a relatively young brand in the country, but they continue to make waves in the Philippine auto industry.
Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP), the official distributor of Geely cars in the country, announced that the Coolray has once again topped the 5-seater subcompact crossover segment for Q1 2021. The automaker was able to do so after selling a total of 744 units of the Coolray from January to March.
Not only that, SGAP said that they were able to maintain its top-10 ranking in the country. Currently, they are ranked ninth in the total industry sales with a total of 1,313 vehicles sold during Q1 of this year. This is a 345% increase over last year’s figures of 295 units sold in the same period of 2020.
Out of the 1,313 units sold, 57% came from the brand’s best-selling model to date, the Coolray. Meanwhile, 40% came from the Okavango MPV with 521 units sold last December 2020.
“The numbers speak for themselves. We are happy that we continue to maintain and even surpass our own highest record. This is reflective of our collective effort to rise above pandemic challenges,” said Mikihisa Takayama, president, and CEO of SGAP.
In the future, Geely is targeting to sell 9,500 vehicles this year despite the challenges posed by the economic and health situation. But for Froilan Dytianquin, SGAP Sales and Marketing General Manager, they are hopeful that the situation will improve in the coming months.
“We are still hoping that the situation gets better in the coming months for us to realize this business volume target,” said Dytinaquin.
As the year enters into Q2, Geely is adamant that they will be able to achieve better sales, as well as continue to grow in the country by opening more dealerships nationwide.
