To say that the Coolray is Geely's best-selling vehicle in the country to date is an understatement. Not only is it the brand's most popular vehicle, but it has constantly topped the sales charts as the number one subcompact crossover in the Philippines.
After being named the best-selling subcompact SUV in PH for Q1 2021, Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP), the official distributor of Geely cars in the country, announced that 186 units of the Coolray were sold in May. This makes the Coolray the top-selling subcompact SUV last month.
Based on reports from both CAMPI and AVID, the Coolray was able to maintain its lead in the subcompact 4x2 SUV segment with a 33% market share, month-to-date. Meanwhile, the three-row Okavango SUV ranked number 3 in the midsize SUV segment with 151 units sold last May.
Aside from topping the subcompact SUV market last month, Geely also maintained its number 9 ranking in total industry sales (all segments) with year-to-date sales of 1,987 units. In addition, Geely Philippines ranked 8th in the passenger vehicle segment to include passenger cars, SUVs, and MPVs.
“We are pleased to see the good reception the Coolray and Okavango have been receiving in the market. This proves that we are offering our customers what they really need at this time,” said Yosuke Nishi, president, and CEO of SGAP.
Geely hopes to sell 9,500 vehicles this year. Together with SGAP's plan to open more dealerships in the country, the Coolray could continue to help Geely reach its target sales. Moreover, the company plans to launch more models this year. The mystery models supposedly include two new SUVs and a sedan.
