In a bid to enter the global market on electric vehicles, Geely has recently revealed their new pure-electric vehicle codenamed GE11, during a design preview event in Shanghai. The GE11 will be Geely’s first 'globally strategic model' built under their newly created energy brand, Geely New Energy.
Geely wanted to the model’s design to emphasize it being an electric model, and the company has certainly done so with the GE11's smooth and simple styling. The front does not have a grill which shows that it is a zero emissions vehicle with no internal combustion engine under the hood. However, it still sports the brand's signature expanding cosmos design language. The slim LED headlights are said to be like 'expanded blades of light', which help complement the front fascia.
Moving along the side, you can see EV’s fastback design. Those with a keen eye would notice that the GE11 has a single character line which runs from the bottom of the door and rises upward at the rear fender. The door handles sit flush and only pops out when the user approaches. While Geely has yet to show us the GE11's rear end, the Chinese automaker has provided us a photo of the EV's slim LED taillights as well as a small, incorporated trunk spoiler. Because of its design, the GE11 has an ultra-low drag coefficient of only 0.2375cd.
The simplistic design continues inside the GE11's cabin. There is almost no clutter on the dashboard with only a small floating screen in front of the driver, making the massive 12.3 center screen stand out. Most, if not all of the physical buttons have been replaced by touch controls.
Aside from having a minimalist design, Geely claims that the GE11 is also environmentally friendly through the use of its interior materials. The interior is said to use materials that meet Europe's most stringent environmental protection standards – OEKO-TEX Standard 100. According to the automaker, the materials make it safe for babies and is even waterproof, resistant to "fouling" and breathable.
Official technical details have yet to be released, meaning we will have to wait to know more details. That said, it will likely be powered by an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery like most other EVs out there.
Geely will be initially launching the GE11 in first and second-tier cities in China.
