At its global debut at the 2013 Geneva International Motor Show as a new automotive brand, Qoros, also presented the world premiere of its first production vehicle along with two concept vehicles to indicate the brand's direction towards future production models.
The Qoros brand was founded in 2007 by Chery Automobile and Israel Corporation and has an engineering center that's based in Shanghai and employs a number of local and international designers and engineers although the brand seems to be leaning more towards European type of styling.
At the show, the brand launched the Qoros 3 sedan to establish their brand identity which will eventually be applied across its entire model range. The Qoros 3 will be the brand's entry to the compact car segment even with slightly bigger dimensions of 4,615mm long and 1,839mm wide. It features a coupe-like body styling with short overhands and long wheelbase.
It will be offered with either a 126bhp 1.6-liter gasoline VVT engine or a turbocharged version that offers 156bhp and 210Nm of torque. Both of which will be mated to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard with an option for a six-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. The highlight of the interior has to be its infotainment system that can be controlled via a capcitive touch screen display mounted on the center console.
The company is also currently developing a three-cylinder 1.2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine along with a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine both of which features gasoline direct injection(GDI) that can soon see its way to the Qoros 3 as well as the brand's future models.
The Qoros 3 Cross Hybrid Concept, a compact hatchback concept study version of its production model Qoros 3 was also displayed at the show. The hatchback utilizes an advanced hybrid powertrain consisting of a 1.2-liter petrol engine coupled to a rear mounted electric motor with a second electric motor(Integrated Starter Generator) mounted in between the petrol engine and the main electric motor to control the two drive units to deliver front, rear, or all-wheel driving experience.
Another concept study of the Qoros 3 in the form of an Estate was also present at the show to further add to the sedan's functionality. The Qoros 3 Estate Concept is geared towards the family with its generous interior space brought about by the higher roofline and larger cargo space.
After extensive testing at key locations around the world, the Qoros 3 Sedan, is currently on its pre-production development phase and is due to be first launched in China in the second half of the year, with first European sales following later in the year. The launch of further Qoros models is then planned at intervals of approximately six-to-twelve months.
