The much-anticipated Honda Civic Type R Concept made its global debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. The concept is a preview for the styling direction for the upcoming hot hatch from Honda that is scheduled to debut in Europe in 2015.
The design team calls their creation a 'racing car for the road' instead of just being a performance tuned version of the standard Honda Civic hatchback. It promises to be the most extreme Civic Type R primarily because it will be the first Type R to be equipped with a turbocharged engine as well as feature an aggressive exterior.
The engineering team has combined aesthetics and performance with the new Civic Type R Concept’s exterior styling. Intensive track testing at Nürburgring Nordschleife has contributed significantly to the aerodynamic development of the bodywork. Each aero part has been tested to provide downforce and airflow enhancement for both efficiency, cooling, grid and optimum performance. The widened front and rear fenders allow fitment of 20-inch wheels and tires for a more prominent look as well as better roadholding.
Confirmed at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show, the new Type R will be fitted with Honda’s new Earth Dreams 2.0-liter VTEC Turbo engine which is expected to deliver at least 280 PS and conform to EURO 6 emission standards at the same time.
Also contributing significantly to the development of the new Honda Civic Type R is the Japanese automakers motorsport program in the World Touring Car Championship. Honda has gained significant experience and data to aid in the development of its latest performance car.
