The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company recently introduced two concept tires that may change how future tires will function for the next-generation of vehicles.
Pictured above is the BHO3 concept which may provide the possibility of charging the batteries of electric cars by converting heat generated by the rolling tire to reusable energy. Goodyear claims that the demand for electric vehicles is growing and this type of tire technology will prove to be useful as it can extend the range of electric-powered cars.
Up next is the Triple Tube tire concept that can adjust itself depending on weather conditions. The company did not provide any images but explained that within the inner structure of the tire, there are expandable tubes located near the tread, inboard/outboard shoulders of the tire as well as the center.
Working in tandem with an internal pump that can direct air from the main chamber towards the tubes, it allows users to adjust the tire into 3 different settings. On Eco/Safety position, all three tubes are inflated and provide reduced rolling resistance while on Sporty position, air is reduced on the inboard shoulder and delivers better road contact.
The last of which is the Wet Traction position wherein maximum inflation is directed onto the center tube, giving high aquaplaning resistance through a raised thread at the center of the tire.

We envision a future in which our products become more integrated with the vehicle and the consumer, more environmentally friendly and more versatile,” said Joe Zekoski, Goodyear Senior Vice president And Chief Technical Officer.
