The long wait is over as Honda recently unveiled the 2015 Civic Type R in all its glory at this year's Geneva Motor Show. Described by the automaker as the "Race Car For The Road," the all-new Civic features an aggressively-designed exterior paired with a turbocharged VTEC engine, a first for the iconic car.
Immediately seen is the Type R's wide bodykit that consist of a new front bumper with large air intakes and splitter that reduces air turbulence around the front wheels. Along the side it has extended side skirts and a flat underside that directs incoming air onto the car's rear diffuser.
Over to the rear, there is a fixed rear wing engineered for more downforce without increasing drag according to Honda. Completing the exterior look of the all-new Civic is a set of 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 235/35/R19 tires.
The cabin gets mostly a gray finish while the suede sport seats are upholstered in two-tone black and red fabric with red double stitching. The gear knob is made from machined alloy while the the steering wheel is wrapped in black leather with red inserts. Also present aboard the new Type R is the '+R' button that increases response of the engine and chassis system.
Providing power for the 2015 Type-R Civic is an all-new Earth Dreams 2.0-liter direct injection VTEC Turbo engine that cranks out 310 PS at 6500 rpm and 400 Nm of torque at 2500 rpm. It is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox that allows the car to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds before hitting a top speed of 270 km/h.
Other features present in the 2015 Type-R Civic include a new four-point Adaptive Damper System that enables independent control of each wheel to deliver precise handling while also maintaining a stable ride and a high performance Brembo brake package.
An optional GT package on the other hand adds red exterior accents as well as other amenities like front and rear parking sensors, automatic headlights, rain sensing wipers and power folding door mirrors.
