Envisioned as a high performance electric vehicle, DS Automobiles has unveiled the E-TENSE at this year’s Geneva Auto Show.

The E-TENSE marks the celebration of DS as a breakaway luxury brand from PSA Peugeot Citroen. With its concept bearing a sleek, low-slung design and an electric powerplant, the E-TENSE pretty much follows in the footsteps of the original DS concept. Measuring in at 4120mm long, 2080mm wide, and just 1,290mm tall, the E-Tense further accentuates its sharp lines and girth with its lack of height.

The E-TENSE’s propulsion matches the edgy exterior with a 400PS electric motor capable of 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. Having its lithium-ion batteries mounted underneath the car for optimum balance, the E-TENSE’s batteries are capable of ranges of up to 360 km in the city or 310 km with combined use on highways.

Given the inherent weight of its batteries, the E-TENSE isn’t exactly light with its 1800 kg weight. Nonetheless, suspension and chassis work have been sorted with a carbon monococque shell as well as independent superimposed double wishbone suspension on all four corners. Touching the pavement are a set of 20-inch alloys flanked with Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

Having an interior laden with edges as much as its exterior, the upholsterers responsible for the E-TENSE apparently had to use up 800 hours to finish all the surfaces inside. Entertainment comes in the form of a 10-inch infotainment setup with a Focal 640-watt, 9 speaker sound system which, according to DS will allow the concept to become “an auditorium to satisfy the most exigent of listeners.”

While all of this is indeed impressive, there are no indications as to the E-TENSE’s fate with regards to production.
