Last year's Geneva Motor Show saw SEAT reveal the 20V20 Concept which is their take on making a compact SUV. For 2016 however, the Spanish automaker returns with the production version of the SUV. Called Ateca, SEAT claimed the new model is a combination of the brand’s distinct design, driving fun, versatility and technologies.
Named afted a town in Aragon, Spain; the VW Group MQB platform based compact SUV was wholly designed in Barcelona and takes styling cues from 20V20 Concept from last year's auto show.
“The essential role of this car will be to help the brand take a further step forward in terms of image. Ateca will cover a steadily growing sub-segment in Western Europe in recent years,” said Luca de Meo, Chairman of the Executive Committee of SEAT.
Beginning with its front fascia, it gets the same angular LED headlights from the concept version and a black grill with chrome trim. Also seen up front is the clamshell hood, sleek foglights and an air dam. Over to its side, it gets flared wheel arches, a distinct beltline and alloy wheels with black inserts.
The rear gets a more conservative finish than the concept version however. The tailgate and rear bumper get a cleaner finish while the dual corner exhausts are now side by side. Completing it all is a set of wraparound taillights that feature LED illumination.
Interior images were not provided though SEAT did say it will be fitted with the latest in connectivity, assistance systems and quality cabin materials. For starters, it will get 8-inch touchscreen displays, Full Link connectivity, Traffic Jam Assist and new Emergency Assist as such.
When it is launched, a range of gasoline-powered and diesel-driven engines will be made available. Output ratings will range from 115 PS to 190 PS and can be had in either 2WD or 4WD configurations. Transmission options, on the other hand, will come in either manual or dual-clutch.
It will go on sale in Germany and Spain in mid-2016 and will be available in three trim levels.
