Geneva 2017: Chevy reveals track-ready Camaro concept

Camaro Track concept gets chassis, handling upgrades from Chevy Performance

Track day warriors rejoice as Cheverolet recently arrived at the 2017 Geneva International Motor Show with an all-new Camaro concept. Called the Camaro Track concept, the one-off will be able to fulfill the roles of both a “fast sports coupe for everyday road use and high-performance car for track time on weekends”.

For starters, the Camaro Track concept gets an array of chassis and suspension upgrades. It gets an upgraded FE4 suspension for better cornering ability. Meanwhile, the Magnetic Ride Suspension has been lowered by 30mm thanks to a unique calibration according to Chevy. Lightweight 20-inch gloss black aluminum alloys wrapped in Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires provide extra grip.

Improved stopping power comes courtesy of Brembo six-piston aluminum monobloc front calipers with performance pads. Duralife, on the other hand, provided the vented and slotted disc brakes that measure 370mm. Beyond that, the Camaro Track concept also has the following: electronic limited slip differential, dual mode performance exhaust, and upgraded engine, transmission and differential coolers.

Apart from the powertrain upgrades, Chevy also introduced exterior add-ons to the special one-off. It gets an aerodynamic bodykit, a 3-piece rear spoiler, smoked taillights and black bowtie emblems. It is then topped off by a satin green paint with hood and roof stripes finished in black.

Inside, Chevy claimed the Camaro Track concept has Recaro sport bucket seats, a flat-bottomed steering wheel wrapped in suede, premium floor mats from Chevy Performance and aluminum pedals.

Powering the unique track car is a 6.2-liter V8 that generates 453 PS at 5700 rpm and 617 Nm of torque at 4600 rpm. It is then mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters.

There is no word yet if Chevy will build a production model of the concept, or will make the parts available for standard Camaro models.
