High-tech Ssangyong e-SIV EV Concept previews electrification, new design language

The future is looking electric and Ssangyong plans to mass-produce their own electric vehicle soon. Officially making its world debut at the 88th Geneva International Motor Show is the e-SIV EV Concept. Touted as a C-segment electric crossover, the Electronic Smart Interface Vehicle (e-SIV) gets a coupe-like design, along with high-tech features such as autonomous driving and wireless conductive recharging.

Beginning with the concept's looks, Ssanyong claimed the e-SIV EV previews the future design direction of the brand. Through the design concept 'New horizon, smart dynamisism', the e-SIV blends SUV styling with sleek coupe lines. With that, the EV has a fluid and robust design that embraces both traditional aesthetics with modern styling.

The front fascia features an evolutionary redesign of the brand's signature grill and headlight design. Sleek lines, along with muscular curves and arches make up the side profile of the e-SIV EV. Finally, the rear fascia is dominated by a large singular taillight that runs the entire width of the concept.

Step inside the cabin and a plethora of monitors and touchscreen displays await your command. According to Ssangyong, they designed it in a way that allows for a smart, user-centric interface. The wide display situated on the dashboard allows both the driver and passenger/s to easily view the necessary information. In addition, the concept also comes with four individual bucket seats. Further sprucing up cabin ambiance comes courtesy of ambient lighting, soft-touch materials and upholstery and a huge sunroof.

When it comes to in-car amenities and entertainment, it has a telematics service which allows users to remotely operate the climate control system, vehicle management systems and other necessary settings. The infotainment also benefits from speech recognition to allow drivers to issue commands with just their voice.

Driving the e-SIV EV is a 140 kW (190 PS) electric motor powered by a 61.5 kWh battery. This translates to a maximum cruising range of 320 – 450 km and a 150 km/h top speed. In addition, Ssangyong claims that the batteries can be recharged from 0 – 80% in as quick as 50 minutes.

Aside from its electric powertrain, the e-SIV also has level 2 self-driving technology. What this means is that the concept recognize lanes on the road, as well as maintain their distance behind another vehicle while cruising. However, Ssangyong can upgrade the concept to a level 3 by installing an additional sensor, allowing it to automatically change lanes and have more autonomous control over the vehicle.
