They say Avengers: Infinity War (or Endgame) is the most ambitious crossover event in history. But, this new, unexpected collaboration between Back to the Future and Transformers could be one of the best crossovers by far.
In order to commemorate Back to the Future's 35th anniversary this 2020, Transformers have joined Back to the Future timeline and created an all-new character – Gigawatt – based on Doc Brown's iconic DeLorean. Just like the time machine from it is based on, Gigawatt is an Autobot capable of time-traveling as well.
When in Gigawatt form, the action figure stands 5.5-inch tall and features a host of design details inspired by Doc Brown's DeLorean. The most obvious would have to be the flux capacitor chest plate with matching dates from the movie just below it. Though it is a bit harder to make out, Gigawatt is also wearing goggles styled similar to that used by Doc Brown in the movie.
To transform Gigawatt from a robot into the time-traveling DeLorean, all it takes are 17-steps. Once in time machine mode, the gullwing doors of the DeLorean are fully operational. The wheels can also rotate from vertical to horizontal, giving it a hovering effect. There's even a lightning bolt hook at the back for proper detailing.
Aside from the figure, a four-part comic book series about the Transformers and Back to the Future will be published. Unfortunately, details about the story are still scarce at the moment. However, to paraphrase Doc Brown, expect that “you're gonna see some serious sh*t”.
For those interested in the Gigawatt figuring, it is currently a Walmart exclusive pre-order and will be limited to only 1985 units. Unfortunately, all of them are now sold out and are currently being re-sold for a higher price. Luckily, a second release will be made able soon.
