When we think about McLaren, adjectives such as ‘precision’ and ‘calculated’ come to mind when describing their latest slew of supercars. The folks from Woking, England are more known for being able to translate science into speed by having perfectly engineered vehicles hosting a variety of tech that will help drivers do one thing: Go fast.
Of course, while their cars are engineered to a certain degree once their production cars cross continents some folks would try to get more power out of these vehicles anyway – and that is when Hennessey Performance comes into the picture. Being bold enough to offer a power package for the McLaren 600LT, Hennessy claims they can bring the limited-run McLaren towards the thousand horsepower mark – power figures to match a Bugatti Veyron.
In what they call the HPE1000 trim, Hennessey Performance boosts the 3.8-liter twin-turbo powerplant to a solid 1,000 PS and a staggering 1,173 Nm of torque. To get to this figure an overhaul of the whole twin turbo system had to be performed.
Hennessey fitted revised turbos, a high-flow wastegate, new exhaust hardware, an upgraded intercooler, high-flow air filters, and Motec engine management to rein in all the new hardware. Tweaks to the seven-speed gearbox also make sure the transmission is strong enough to handle the added power.
All these, as Hennessey claims, will result in a 0-96 km/h time of 2.1 seconds – a good 0.7 seconds faster than the standard 600LT. Quarter miles can be done within 9.6 seconds.
Prices have yet to be announced for this particular power package, but if you’re able to shell out $240,000 (around Php 12.5 million) for a McLaren 600LT then perhaps the extra fees for more power shouldn’t be of much trouble.
