Thanks to an anonymous source, we were able to find out that GAC Motor Philippines will be launching a new model this coming February – the GN6. It would be the brand's second MPV alongside the larger GM8.
At the time, we didn't know what specs and how many variants the Philippine-bound GN6 will have. So, we had to make a guess based on the variants of the MPV in China. Thanks to another tip, however, we finally know all the specs and variants of the GN6 GAC will sell very soon. And by looking at the spec sheet, the MPV is quite loaded.
The upcoming 2021 GN6 will be available in two variants – the entry-spec GB and the range-topping GE – both of which are 7-seaters (2+2+3). Both GB the and GE trim will come with only one engine option – a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-four. Yes, it is quite a small displacement motor for an MPV, but it does produce 171 PS and 265 Nm torque. A 6-speed automatic transmission is the only available transmission option.
On the outside, the differences between the GB and GE variants are quite subtle. Both ride on 16-inch wheels, come equipped with halogen headlights, LED taillights, and power-folding side mirrors. The difference, however, is that the entry-spec GB does not have front foglights and a sunroof, while the GE has both.
Inside, the differences between the two variants are more obvious. The entry-spec GB features fabric-trimmed seats paired with light trim color only. Meanwhile, the GE has leather-lined seats and is available in either dark or light trim. The GB also does not have front-side airbags, which are standard on the GE. Want a rear-view camera? That's available only on the top-spec GN6, but parking sensors do come standard on both variants. Entertainment-wise, a 4-speaker sound system is standard on the GB, while a 6-speaker system is found on the GE. Only the top-spec GN6 comes with cruise control and PEPS (Passive Entry Passive Start).
Despite the differences mentioned above, the GN6 is still loaded with features. Both variants come with a 7-inch LCD instrument cluster and an 8-inch LCD infotainment screen. Safety-wise, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electric Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Traction Control System (TCS), Hill-start Hold Control (HHC), and Hill Descent Control (HDC) are standard for either variant.
Now the question most of you are probably waiting, price. According to a tipster, the 2021 GAC GN6 may start at PHP 1,470,000. Do note, however, this has yet to be officially confirmed.
