Toyota Vios retains crown as Best Selling Car of the Philippines of 2019
2019 saw plenty of all-new vehicle launches, as well as several facelifts and updates of current and existing nameplates. With 416,647 units sold last year, the numbers are in for the country’s 10 best-selling automobiles of 2019.
Based on the sales figure, Toyota once again ruled the roost as they took 7 out of the 10 spots overall. Last year, the automaker only got to take a total of six spots.
At the very top of the list is none other than the Toyota Vios. A total of 33,181 units were sold last year, beating out the Toyota Hilux in second place by a huge margin which sold for respectable 20,846 vehicles in total in 2019. It’s worth noting that the Vios and Hilux had a better sales figure for this year compared to last year where they only sold for 25,840 and 18,237 units respectively.
In third is the Toyota Innova which sold for a total of 20,794 units. Like the Vios and the Hilux, the MPV sold more units last year compared to 2018 which only saw 18,175 units rolling off the showroom floor. Meanwhile, the Fortuner sits in fourth place with 19,865 units sold last 2019. It saw a significant drop in sales compared to 2018 which totaled to 23,082 examples.
Completing the top five is the Mitsubishi Xpander which jumped five spots from its 2018 position. From tenth place with 13,502 units, the seven-seater is now at fifth place with a total of 19,089 examples sold last 2019. In number six is the Nissan Navara which garnered 19,034 units, resulting in its advancement from eighth place.
Joining in at seventh place is the Toyota Hiace. It dropped one place as there were only 18,656 units of the van sold for 2019. Perhaps seeing the biggest drop in sales is the Toyota Wigo which is now in eighth place. From being third overall in 2018 with 21,234 units, the A-segment hatchback only sold 18,183 examples in 2019.
Still sitting in ninth place is the Mitsubishi Mirage G4. Despite retaining its original place, Mitsubishi was able to sell more units of the small four-door in 2019. From 14,810 units in 2018, the automaker sold 17,835 examples of the Mirage G4 last year. Rounding up the top ten is the Toyota Rush which tallied a total of 15,172 units sold in 2019.
Looking at the 2018 data with last year’s sales figures, the Toyota Rush is the sole newcomer to join the top ten. Everything else either moved up or dropped down several places. With plenty more of new car launches set to happen this 2020, next year’s 10 best vehicles will be quite interesting to see.
