Motor Image Pilipinas will officially launch the refreshed 2021 Subaru XV next month. The updated crossover made its global debut last year, featuring minor styling changes here and there. But while we have seen photos of it on the internet, we didn't really know what the local spec model will look like.

But even before the updated XV makes its debut next month, a unit was already on display at the Subaru Manila Bay showroom. And we naturally had to check it out.

The majority of changes on the XV are at the crossover's front end. The updated model features a new bumper paired with a revised grille. It gives the XV a more rugged look thanks to the larger black cladding. Rounding up the changes to the front end is a new grille.

Compared to the Japan and North America spec models, the local units don't get the silver trim on the fog lights and the lower portion of the bumper. The XV model on display is the mid-spec 2.0i-S EyeSight variant.

Aside from the change to the front end, the rest of the 2021 XV looks very much the same. The only other visual change would be the new 18-inch wheels. There's also a new color called Plasma Yellow Pearl. Unfortunately, the one they had on display was white.

Inside, the cabin is carried over from the outgoing model aside from new trim on the doors. Local units do get a new 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. For the first time, the XV also gets S-I drive mode, along with auto vehicle hold (AVH). It also receives the new Dual X-Mode function from the Forester, allowing it to tackle more rugged terrain.

Under the hood, it's the same 2.0-liter boxer engine. It produces 156 PS and 196 Nm torque and shifts via Subaru's continuously variable transmission dubbed Lineartronic. Like all Subaru models, Symmetrical all-wheel drive is standard.

While the unit may have been on display, there was no word on price yet. But, we were told that the refreshed 2021 XV will stay relatively close to the current XV's price point. The current XV 2.0i EyeSight retails for PHP 1,608,000 and the XV 2.0i-S EyeSight at PHP 1,908,000.
