After making its world debut last February of this year, Auto Nation Group, the official distributor of Mercedes-Benz in the Philippines, has officially launched the all-new 2019 A-Class. It serves as Mercedes-Benz's smallest luxury offering and combines sporty looks with high-tech features in a neat and compact package.
The all-new A-Class now bears Mercedes-Benz's new design language called 'Sensual Purity'. With it, the five-door hatchback departs from the its then more rounded shape for a sleeker, sharper look. The front fascia gets the new 'progressive' style front grill that is accompanied by flat LED headlights reminiscent of the AMG GT, and a sportier-looking bumper. Around the back, elongated taillights along with a redesigned tailgate and rear bumper, further highlight the hatchback's broader lines and more aggressive looks.
For those that prefer something a bit more stylish, Mercedes-Benz Philippines is also offering the A-Class Edition 1. Based off the AMG Line appearance pack, the Edition 1 gets AMG front and rear aprons with green inserts, diamond-style front grill with chrome inserts, Edition badges all around, lightweight 19-inch AMG alloy wheels, sport seats upholstered in Artico and Dinamica microfiber, and a flat-bottomed steering wheel wrapped in Nappa leather.
Size-wise, the all-new A-Class measures 4419mm long, 1796mm wide, 1440mm tall and has a 2729mm wheelbase. Side-by-side with the previous generation, the 2019 A-Class is 127mm longer, 16mm wider has a longer wheelbase that extends 30mm. Its height, however, has been carried over from the previous model.
Inside, the 2019 A-Class has been fully redesigned and now has a more modern, avant-garde look. It has a wing-inspired design that is complemented by the optional ambient lighting that can be set to 64 different colors. But perhaps the most important upgrade inside the new A-Class is the new multimedia system called 'MBUX'.
Short for 'Mercedes-Benz User Experience', the new infotainment system consists of two 10.25-inch displays that come with new wireless connectivity features. What's more is that it has speech recognition and voice control that can be activated by saying 'Hey Mercedes'. Other standard features available in the MBUX include navigation, heads-up display, vehicle tracker and touchscreen function as such.
Under the hood, the 2019 A-Class is powered by a new 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is available in two states of tune, depending on the model chosen. On the A 180, the engine produces 136 PS at 5500 rpm with 200 Nm of torque at 1460 rpm. Meanwhile, both the A 200 and A 200 Edition One variants put out 163 PS at 5500 rpm and 250 Nm of torque at 1620 rpm. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission serves as the lone gearbox offering for the 2019 A-Class.
A wide array of safety features are available on the 2019 A-Class. These include Active Brake Assist, Active Parking Assist with Parktronic, reverse camera, anti-theft alarm package and 7 airbags.
