If you have two vehicles registered under your name, there’s a bill put forth in the House of Representatives that, if approved, may just tag you with additional annual registration fees on top of what you already pay for.
House Bill 4181, which is being pushed by Cagayan de Oro City Rep. Rufus Rodriguez and. Abante Mindanao partylist Rep. Maximo Rodriguez Jr., indicates additional fees on the second and succeeding vehicles that are registered under the same owner.
Called the ‘Act providing for higher registration fees for the 2nd and the subsequent motor vehicles registered in the name of the owner’ it states that an additional Php5,000 will be charged for the 2nd vehicle, Php7,000 for the 3rd vehicle and Php10,000 for the fourth and subsequent vehicle.
The congressmen cite the heavy vehicular traffic caused by the 6.2% average increase of vehicles annually and the air pollution it brings as major reasons to penalize ownership of more than one vehicle.
“WHO statistics showed that carbon monoxide has the biggest pollution load contribution of 50 percent, mainly due to the increasing numbers of gasoline-fed vehicles, including cars comprise of 13.58 percent and motorcycles/tricycles cover 47.88 percent,” Rodriguez said.
“With technology for alternative or renewable sources of energy still very inefficient and expensive, there is a need to devise new ways that could help lower the number of vehicles roaming the streets of the country,” added Rodriguez.
