Honda Accord 3.0 V6 Bags 2004 Car of the Year Award
The top-spec Honda Accord 3.0 V6 was awarded as the Philippines' 2004 Car of the Year (COTY) by the Car Awards Group, a collaboration of 46 motoring journalists from 21 media outfits and publications, including AutoIndustriya.com.
"We are deeply honored that the Honda Accord was chosen Car of the Year for 2004 amidst other deserving nominees," Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) Deputy Head for Marketing Arnel Doria said in a statement. The Honda Accord 3.0 V6 also got the Best Executive Sedan award.
Other COTY winners for 2004 include the Hyundai Starex as the Best Van/People Carrier, Ford Ranger as the Best Pick-up, and Mitsubishi Adventure Grand Sport as Best AUV.
The ubiquitous Toyota Vios, on the other hand, has claimed ownership on the Best Super Mini Award, while the Best Sports Compact Award went to the Ford Lynx RS 2.0. The Volvo S60 T5 got the Best Luxury Sedan award, and the BMW 745Li got the Best Ultra Luxury Sedan award.
For the utility vehicles, Best Light SUV of the Year went to the Nissan X-Trail 250x, while the Luxury SUV award was awarded to newcomer Chevrolet TrailBlazer EXT.
For the special awards, the Kia Picanto garnered the Best Value for Money award due to its very affordable price tag. For the safety buffs, the Volvo XC90 T6 was given the Best in Safety package due to its numerous safety appointments, while the BMW 745Li got the Best in Technical Innovation award.
Isuzu Philippines Corporation was awarded the Best Marketing Campaign for their soirees throughout the country onboard different Isuzu vehicles. Mercedes-Benz SLK 350 was given the Special Participation award in its very successful efforts in impressing the group.
Mazda Philippines was not forgotten, for they were bestowed the Best Overall Design and the Media Choice for their Mazda 3 offering. Truly, the Mazda3 possessed that X-Factor that wowed motoring journalists not only in the Philippines but in numerous countries throughout the world.
The 2004 Car of the Year awarding ceremonies was held at the spanking Rockwell Tent at the Plaza, in which the adjacent Power Plant Mall would be home to the 2004 Car of the Year this coming March 4-6. All winners of the 2004 Car of the Year Awards will be displayed at the First Manila Motor Show on April 28-30 at the World Trade Center.
The Car of the Year is sponsored by Worldbex, Standard Insurance, Manila North Tollways Corporation, Caltex Philippines, Bosch, Bridgestone Tires, Reebok, and Auto Depot Ortigas. The COTY six Test Fest weekends were sponsored by Automobile Association of the Philippines and was overseen and marshaled by veteran rally drivers. Auditing firm Sycip, Gorres and Velayo (SGV) tallied and certified the 2004 Car of the Year test results.
