Production version will be sold starting third quarter of this year

Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) revealed a concept version of the 2014 Honda City by the automaker’s racing arm, MUGEN, at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

The 15-foot-high curtains surrounding the City MUGEN Prototype dropped after MUGEN director for motorsports and products Kazuhide Yasui introduced the car in a speech.

“MUGEN knows the fact that many Honda City customers here in the Philippines love to accessorize automobiles enabling us to sell the limited-edition City MUGEN last year. With the MUGEN accessories applied to the all-new City MUGEN Prototype, the all-new City was made even sportier and more aggressive to provide excitement to Filipino customers,” he said.

HCPI president Toshio Kuwahara told AutoIndustriya.com in an interview that "the unveiling is the world premiere of the concept car, since it has never been exhibited anywhere else."

The upgrades to the concept are purely cosmetic, most notably the Taffeta White paintjob with body stripes in MUGEN’s red, gold and black colors along the sides of the car and at the top of the windshield.

Complementing these are front, side and rear skirts; a black MUGEN front grille; carbon-fiber-effect side mirror covers; a rear trunklip spoiler; and black, 17-inch wheels.

The rest of the car is the same as a stock City VX.

But Yasui said MUGEN will offer upgrades for the engine, suspension, brakes and interior.

The company said in a press release that the production version of the City MUGEN Prototype will be available locally by the third quarter of 2014, with other countries getting the model later.

“The continuing partnership of MUGEN and HCPI is continuously growing stronger. As a proof, we are proud to announce today that Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. is the No.1 MUGEN product distributor in the world outside the Japan market,” Yasui said.
