Honda has been busy setting new front-wheel drive lap records in the Civic Type R. They've already been to numerous European circuits – such as Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps – setting a new record every time. In fact, the FK8 is also the record holder in the Nurburgring. Now, Honda has finally completed the Type R challenge after former Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button set a new record at the Hungaroring.

The Civic Type R recently claimed its fifth and final European lap record of the Type R Challenge with Jenson Button, setting a 2:10.19 lap around the Hungaroring. For those who don't know, the Hungaroring is also home to the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix. Fortunately, Jenson Button, happened to drive for Honda during his stint in F1. Furthermore, the 4.38 km long track also gave him his first Formula 1 victory back in 2006.

“The first thing I noticed when I left the pit lane was how neutral the car was. I come from a background that is not front-wheel drive focused, so it was very different for me but because the Type R is so well balanced it was instantly really enjoyable and more natural,” said Button.

Honda also released an onboard video of the full lap to prove its validity and give us a glimpse of how the Civic Type R handles with an ex F1 world champion behind the wheel.

“The thing that surprised me most is how late you can brake with this car. The manual gearbox works really well, too. Most cars these days don’t come with manual boxes, so it’s nice to have that manual feel. You always feel a lot more connected to the car,” he added.
