Honda updates the Civic with subtle styling change, more safety tech

It was back in 2016 when Honda introduced the 10th generation Civic, also known as the FC (Sedan and Coupe) and FK (Hatchback) body models. Now just two years into its life, the Japanese automaker has rolled out a minor styling refresh for both the coupe and sedan models. In the US market where the facelifted models were first introduced, Honda also added a new trim – Sport.

Going into details of the 2019 MY Civic, those without a keen eye would proably have a hard time looking for the changes. The most noticable change on the Civic can be seen in its front fascia. There is now a new piano black upper grill panels, which replaces the previous bright chrome models. The lower grill was also restyled to give it larger opening with chrome trim fitted near the foglights. Rounding up the exterior styling changes are the new 18-inch wheels for the Touring variant and updated halogen and LED headlights.

The new Sport trim for the US-market is positioned between the base model LX and the EX, and is available for both Sedan and Coupe bodies. What sets it apart is the blackened lower front fascia and a rear spoiler for the sedan variants. The rear bumper also comes with a splitter and incorporates a new exhaust shaped similar to the SI.

Under the hood, the Civic Sport is offered with a 2.0-liter four cylinder engine and is available with either a continously variable transmission (CVT) or a 6-speed manual transmission. Inside, the Sport variants receive a infotainment system with Android Auto and AppleCarPlay.

Honda has also committed to make Honda Sensing standard on all vehicles by 2022. That said, all trim levels of the 2019 Civic will come with Honda Sensing safety tech which includes Collision Mitigation Braking System with Forward Collision Warning, and Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) to name a few.

There is still no word as to when the Philippines will get the 2019 model Honda Civic. It is also uncertain whether the new Sport trim will be offered locally.
